We all want to generate leads online, but do you ever feel like you’re creating a ton of free content, whether it’s videos, blogs, podcasts or just for social media… and find yourself wondering how it all actually leads to sales? 😳
Maybe you’ve heard marketers telling you to give a TON of valuable stuff away for free, and you’re a bit confused how it all actually leads to business?
Well this video’s for you… we’re going to tell you how to generate more leads from your content in 4 simple ways.
1. Grow Your Email List
We’re big fans of email marketing, because it’s a good way to keep in touch with your audience and give them more value, but also to start sales conversations.
So, either let people know they can sign up for email updates, or offer something of more value that’s a good addition to the content to try to grow your list.
For example… a few weeks ago we did a video about what to put in a sales proposal and offered a free download of the template… that video went out on the Tuesday, by Friday 5 of the people who downloaded the template had signed up to ATOMIC, for a total of £2850, from 1 free video! 😲
The beauty of doing this is that bit of content is pretty evergreen and can continue to generate leads and sales for a long period of time.
Also, we can send sales emails to our list, whereas if we uploaded a video to YouTube that was just us selling ATOMIC, chances are it wouldn’t do very well.
A: But until then… here’s something you can start doing with your list…
2. Follow up with ‘Clickers’
If we’re sending out a ton of free content via email or a Messenger bot, then we can start to find out what people are interested in and what they’re struggling with… and follow up with those people.
For example… say you’re in the nutrition industry, and you send out an email linking to a video all about how to eat healthy when you’re super busy at work, and you know you have a course all about it, you can follow up with everyone who clicks and:
- Invite them to the course
- Drop them a discount voucher
- Or invite them to a webinar that sells it
If you’re selling higher value stuff, a cool thing that works well is to use a tool like Bonjoro or Vidyard to send personalised videos to invite people to 1:1 calls based on what you know they are interested in.
We’ve done this, and it works super well 💪
But what if you don’t have an email list? Or you want to sell in the content itself?
Well… we have a whole video over here about Selling in Social Media Posts, so go check that out, but also, what about more meaty bits of content like blogs and videos?
3. Talk about what you do
A super easy way to generate leads online is simply talk about your products and services, and what you do.
Here’s a test for you… if someone was to just consume your free content would they know what you actually do, and how they can buy from you?
For a lot of businesses, the answer is no… so make sure in your content, you’re talking about what’s going on in your business, how people can buy from you, link to sales pages, and talk about case studies or success stories.
The purpose of content marketing is to build up trust and loyalty with potential customers, right? But they need to know how to buy from you.
4. Optimise Your Website for Lead Generation
A lot of the time our free stuff lives on our site, and putting free valuable content on our website is a great way to drive traffic to it.
But… is your site actually optimised for generating leads?
If you just have a Contact Us page and that’s all then the answer is NO!
We have a whole video over here about optimising your site for lead generation go give it a watch, but the basics of it are, you need to work out how your site starts sales conversations, in a really easy way…
Do you have an easy way for people to book in a meeting, or download a price guide, or get a quote, or register for a webinar, or talk to a chat bot, or even just call you? If you want people to call you… is your site even optimised for that? How prominent is your number on there?
Here’s the deal guys… we can give away a ton of free stuff, but unless we’re actually TRYING to generate leads online with our content, then we can be waiting a long time for this to pay off… so try some of these tactics and let us know if they help.
And let us know in the comments too if you’d like us to do a video about generating sales from email subscribers, without spamming the living daylights out of them… if enough people want it, we’ll talk through some of our strategies!
