Want to know how to promote a lead magnet?

It happens All. The. Time…

People spend ages creating beautiful, value-packed lead magnets…then forget about them. Sure they might post about them once or twice on their social channels but they don’t get much traction so they end up leaving them to gather virtual dust.

Which is a real shame because if you have a great lead magnet — and you promote it regularly, in the right ways — there is literally NO better way to grow your audience and make more sales.

So we’re going to share five key ways you can use the lead magnets you’ve already created to reach more potential customers quickly AND effectively.

  1. Post about it on social media

Okay, we know you’ve already done this. But have you done it enough?

You really need to be reminding people about your lead magnet all the time. You should be reminding them so often that you’re getting fed up of talking about it. In fact, when you’re sick of hearing about your own lead magnet, you know that you’re posting often enough!

And our top tip for shouting about your lead magnet on social: mention it in your bio and include a link to maximise the number of people who’ll see it.

  1. Incentivise sharing

If you don’t have a huge audience (or budget!), this is a great way to make the most of absolutely every person that downloads your lead magnet.

There are a couple of simple ways to encourage people to share your lead magnet.  The easiest is including a click to tweet button on your thank you page. Or you could run a competition, offering everyone who downloads your lead magnet the chance to win a prize if they encourage their own audience to download it too.

  1. Targeted collaborations

Targeted collaborations are also an excellent way to get more eyeballs on your lead magnets. You could try approaching a community or someone with a large audience and offer to do a training session for them and, of course, you round the training off by promoting your lead magnet to those taking part. This works extremely well because you’re tapping into someone else’s audience and it’s especially useful if your own audience is still on the small side.

Another way to increase your audience through collaboration is to enter into a ‘share for share’ agreement where you ask a business friend to promote your lead magnet to their audience, while you promote their lead magnet to your own audience in return. Talk about a win-win!

Of course, business colleagues aren’t the only people who will want to help you out so don’t be afraid to ask your customers, your friends, your parents, your existing email list, and your social audience to share your lead magnet. Just ask nicely and we’re sure they’ll rally round!

  1. Pull a Brian Dean

Brian is NOT shy about promoting his lead magnet — if you look on his website you’ll see it everywhere; it’s on his homepage, it’s in the menu at the top of his blog page, it’s in his blog sidebar, in the middle of his blog, at the end of his blog, it’s in an exit intent popup, it’s in his newsletters…

Now, we’re not necessarily saying you need to tick each of those boxes but too often we maybe promote our lead magnets in one or two spots on our site and assume that everyone will see it. They won’t. So it’s worth increasing the number of places you mention it on your site. Especially if you blog because the more blog posts you have, the more web traffic you’ll get and the more people will see and download your lead magnet. And the more email subscribers you’ll get.

In fact, this is one of the best ways to organically promote your lead magnet. Because even if you don’t get much traffic it builds up every week. Cumulatively, you might just get a couple of subscribers each week, but as the weeks go on that list grows and grows and grows.

  1. Facebook ads

We’ve saved the best tip for last and it really is the quickest, most effective way to promote your lead magnets.

Okay, so using Facebook ads to promote your lead magnet will cost you some money, but we recommend viewing it as an investment rather than a cost because every new download is really a potential customer for you to nurture and sell to.

Let’s look at a simplified example of how your ad investment might pay off. Say you have a product or service that costs £400 and you invest £200 in Facebook ads. You then get 50-100 new subscribers off the back of those ads, and manage to convert just one of them. That’s a profit of £200 right away. But now you also have 50-100 additional people on your list that you can continue to nurture; 50-100 people that could become customers once you’ve had the time to build up more trust with them.

If you want to know more about using Facebook ads to grow your email list, we have some videos that’ll show you how to get started.

And if you have any questions about this, let us know in the comments and keep us posted on which of these ideas you’re going to try first. We’d love to know!
