Teresa’s 5 tips for landing pages that convert
Hello I’m Teresa Heath-Wareing, and today I’m taking over Andrew and Pete’s YouTube channel. Those amazing guys have invited me on to talk to you about how you can create a highly converting landing page.
I’m gonna tell you my five things that you must do on your landing page to make sure that you maximise its conversions.
Before we get started with our five things, I wanna make one thing super clear. When I talk about a landing page, I’m not talking about a page on your website. Ideally a landing page would be a page away from your site, where there’s no menu bar and no option to do anything than the one thing you’re asking them to do.
Obviously you’re gonna brand it the same as your site and your normal branding, but you really want it to be a stand alone page that you can send people to.

Attention grabbing headline
You wanna get their attention the second they get to that page.
Make it super clear what it is you’re offering. If you make them think too hard they’re not going to stay around long enough to work out what it is that you’re giving them.
So for instance if I was doing a webinar it might say “Free live webinar, learn how to create a highly converting landing page.” That gives the reader no doubt about what it is they’re signing up for.
2. Visually display what’s on offer
One of the things that really helps people convert when they hit a landing page is if they can see the thing they’re actually gonna get.
And you might be thinking, “But Teresa, I’m gonna do a webinar, how on Earth am I meant to put a picture of that?” Well I want you to get a little bit inventive. I want you to put pictures on there that are going to help people try and understand the thing that they’re getting.
So if it is a webinar why not put your face on a computer screen onto the page to make sure that they can see that that’s the sort of thing it’s gonna be. Or if it’s a download, why not mock up as if you’ve printed it off and it’s on a desk. Or you put it on the front of a book or something like that.
I promise you if they can see what they’re gonna get it’s really gonna help convert them.
3. Tell people what it’s going to do for them
The third thing you need to do for landing pages that convert, is you need to tell them what it is they’re going to get and what it’s gonna do for them. So that last bit is the really key thing.
So lets go back to my example of a webinar. So if I’m gonna do a webinar to teach you how to do a highly converting landing page, then I’m gonna tell you we’re gonna be doing an hour webinar, it’s gonna be live with me. So that’s what I’m telling you you’re going to get.
But then what is it gonna do for you? After this webinar you’re gonna be able to create much better landing pages that are gonna convert higher than they have before, or something like that.
Obviously I’ve just done that off the top of my head. I would write it much better if I was doing it!
But the key thing is here is, like I said, tell them what they’re gonna get and tell them what it’s gonna do for them.
4. Social proof
The fourth thing you’re going to want to do is you’re going to want to introduce them to you or give them some kind of social proof.
What we’re trying to do here is we’re trying to say to them, look, I know what I’m talking about, I’m a bit of an expert in this field.
Now obviously if you are your brand then I would absolutely include a photo of you. Make sure you’re looking directly at the camera, or you can be looking at your call to action button.
You don’t wanna put a picture up of when you’re looking away because if you’re looking away it’s like I’m not even that interested in the thing that you’re doing. So definitely don’t do that.
Have it looking direct at the camera, big smiley face, and that’s really gonna help convert.
Include some information about what makes you an expert, but don’t go on and on and on, just a little bit to make them feel more confident that you are who you say you are and you’re not gonna steal their email address and go do something awful with it.
5. The call to action button
Now I’ve left this one to last, but I promise when it comes to landing pages that convert, it’s one of the most important things to get right.
The call to action button is the actual button that you want people to press so they can give you their name and their email address, and they can get your actual ‘thing’.
A few rules for the call to action button.
One, it needs to stand out and literally scream against the page. So ideally you don’t want any other colour on that page that’s on your call to action button. So make sure the colour jars, make sure it really stands out ’cause you want their attention to draw entirely onto that button.
Also, use an action word. So for instance, if I was talking about my webinar, I would say grab your place today or secure your spot now. Use that action word on the end. Get them to do the thing actually at that point.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these five tips… I’m off to get a gin.
